Decedent beneficiaries might also want to sue for loss of companionship and society, but the payout will not exceed $500,000. Punitive damages may be recovered when the deceased’s death is caused by the reckless, egregious, or intentional conduct of the at-fault party.

Oregon Pedestrian Accidents

An Oregon pedestrian accident often leaves victims with devastating and sometimes fatal injuries. Each year, there are hundreds of reported pedestrian crashes across our state with about 85% of the accidents resulting in injuries. Unfortunately, the injuries that are typically sustained in pedestrian crashes are very serious in nature. These crashes take place very suddenly and unexpectedly and can cause tremendous pain and suffering.

Some common causes of pedestrian crashes in Oregon include drivers who fail to see pedestrians or who fail to yield the right-of-way. Many pedestrian accidents occur at night or in the early morning hours when visibility is at its lowest. Drivers who are not paying attention can easily fail to see pedestrians in the roadway, resulting in a crash. Drivers may also be distracted or impaired, causing their focus to be elsewhere in the moments leading up to the collision.

However, it is important never to take your safety for granted. Oregon law can be favorable to injured crash victims as long as the other driver was at least partly at fault for the accident. Injury Accidents in Oregon

According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, there are about 50,000 reported crashes on our state’s roadways each year. As a result of these accidents, approximately 30,000 injuries are also reported. These are the official statistics, however, the true number of crashes is likely quite higher. Hit and Run Accidents in Oregon

Portland, OR — Hit-and-Run Crash Reported on I-5 NB Near the Rose Quarter If you leave the scene of an accident in Oregon, there are several legal risks to face. You may have to pay hefty fines, lose your license, or even go to jail if found guilty.

When an accident happens, it can be hard to think clearly. These things can leave a person feeling stressed out and without a sense of control. But leaving the scene after an accident will almost always be considered a crime.

What constitutes a hit-and-run in Oregon? Any car accident a driver leaves without rendering aid and exchanging information is counted as a hit-and-run. Thankfully because Oregon has more accidents than fatalities, most hit-and-runs lead to little or no damage.

However, car accidents do happen frequently enough that the Oregon Department of Transportation Driver Motor Vehicle Services (DMV) offers training for police officers on how to report these types of accidents. If you are involved in an accident, you are legally obliged to stop and return to the scene or else you risk facing criminal charges.

You will also need to give the other driver your information such as registration and insurance information.

If you hit a parked car and you can’t find the owner, it is required that you stop and leave your information on their windshield or by another visible place. The law states that if someone is injured in an accident you are required to offer them reasonable help. This means doing what you can for them and assisting them in getting medical treatment by calling an ambulance or helping with transportation.

If you fail to follow these duties, there is a chance that the court will find you guilty of criminal offenses.

If you have been involved in a hit-and-run accident, it is highly advised that you seek consultation from an experienced auto accident lawyer. A hit-and-run is a very traumatic event to live through, we believe that you should be able to focus on healing and getting better, while we deal with insurance companies and tedious paperwork.

At Johnson & Taylor Law, we are experts in representing accident victims. This allows us to provide our customers with the highest quality and most efficient service possible. We feel that, at this time in your life, you should prioritize your rehabilitation and recovery.

Motorcycle Accidents in Portland Oregon

Portland OR — Motorcyclist seriously injured after crash with police officer at the intersection of SE 92nd Ave and SE Holgate BlvdUnfortunately, motorcycling can be a very dangerous pastime. With more than 120,000 motorcycle accidents registered in Oregon, it is clear to see the risk that is involved. The most dangerous type of motorcycle accidents tends to happen on highways, where speeds are higher and visibility can be an issue.

Oregon is also known for its wet weather which is also a significant contributor to the number of motorcycle accidents that happen here every year. Even if a motorcyclist takes every precaution possible, other motorists may not see them, and their vehicles might not be able to break in time if the roads are wet. If you or a loved one has been injured or even killed in a motorcycle accident, you need the help of an experienced Oregon motorcycle accident attorney.

That is not to say that weather is the only hazard Oregon motorcyclists face on the road. There is also an ever-growing prominence of auto accidents which can be tied back to distracted driving. Far too often, serious and fatal accidents take place due to other drivers being careless with their cell phones or using their hands to do other things besides driving.

More than 5,000 motorcyclists were killed nationwide in 2019, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It is also worthwhile to note that motorcyclists were, per mile traveled, about 29 times more at risk of fatal injuries than drivers of trucks, cars, and SUVs. Motorcyclists were also found to be four times as likely to sustain injuries in general.

At Johnson & Taylor Law, we are experts in representing accident victims. This allows us to provide our customers with the highest quality and most efficient service possible. We feel that, at this time in your life, you should prioritize your rehabilitation and recovery.

Multi-Vehicle Crashes in Oregon

A personal injury accident can be devastating. Car accidents happen every year, and we see more than 31,000 people injured per year because of them in Oregon. Many of these accident victims suffer injuries due to events that are completely out of their control. Irresponsible and reckless drivers cause countless accidents each year- something that any driver can be a part of.

Any kind of car accident can be dangerous, but when two or more vehicles are involved, the likelihood of injury increases. While an injury alone can be painful and disabling, it can also be very costly. Missing out on work can have a negative financial impact and lead to undue stress on victims and their families.

Many different factors can lead to accidents like this. Speeding, reckless driving, drunk driving, and distracted driving are some of the most common causes. Even if you are found partially liable, you may still be entitled to compensation to help pay for medical costs and lost wages.

Oregon is one of the most accommodative states for personal injury claims. If you’re hurt in a car accident, make sure you know your rights and entitlements. If you were injured in an accident that wasn’t your fault or that you are only partially at fault for, then you might be eligible to apply for a compensation claim. A Portland car accident lawyer can give legal advice and guide you as to what to do if this happens.

It’s important to know that you can still go about your life and responsibilities even after a car accident. You should not accept defeat and incidents dictate your future endeavors. There are still plenty of growth opportunities and you should never give up even if it means contacting a lawyer to help you get your financial grounding back in order.
