Portland, OR (July 12, 2022) — According to reports from local authorities, last Thursday night, a hit-and-run occurred in front of St. Vincent Medical Center. A woman was hit and immediately treated in the hospital. This incident left Barnes Rd closed that Thursday night, according to police.
Reports state that the 72-year-old woman was struck with full impact after a vehicle ran a red light at about 7:22 pm. The woman suffered serious injuries and may lose some limbs as a result of her injuries.
Officials stated that she was returning home after visiting her sick spouse in the hospital at the moment of the crash. Local authorities made note that the location of the crash probably saved her life, as several hospital workers were able to attend to her and provide aid immediately.
Despite the serious nature of the victim’s injuries, officials have said that she is receiving treatment and should survive.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in Oregon
Sustaining injuries in an auto accident can be devastating. Oregon sees about 31,000 people injured in car accidents each year alone, from hit-and-runs to less serious accidents. Too many of these victims suffer substantial injury and are unable to work for months or longer. Reckless and irresponsible driving is a significant factor in many of these accidents.
Every auto accident is dangerous, but hit-and-runs are especially dangerous as nothing is protecting them from impact. Sometimes the injuries sustained in these accidents can be painful and disabling, even fatal, but they can also be very expensive. Being critically injured can keep somebody out of work for quite some time, which can burden families.
Many contributing factors lead to hit-and-run accidents and some of the most common ones are speeding, reckless driving, drunk driving, and distracted driving. You might still be entitled to financial compensation if you’re partially at fault for an accident.
Oregon has a high rate of victims of traffic accidents. Fortunately, this state is very amendable to personal injury claims. If you have been injured in an accident, make sure that you are aware of your rights and entitlements to Oregon law. If you have sustained injuries because of someone else’s negligence or bad judgment, then it could be worth filing a compensation claim. An experienced Oregon auto accident lawyer can assess your situation and advise you on the next steps to take.
