Salem, OR (May 5, 2022) – The Salem Police Department and rescue crews were dispatched to the scene of a serious pedestrian accident Tuesday, May 3rd. The crash occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Silverton Road Northwest.
According to SPD spokeswoman Angela Hedrick, a 27-year-old man was walking close to the train tracks at approximately 5:40 p.m. when he was struck by a train. The male pedestrian sustained major injuries. Paramedics rushed to the crash scene and transported the man to Salem Hospital where he remained in serious condition on Wednesday afternoon.
There is no further update on his condition.
Police reported no additional injuries as a result of the accident. The area near the crash was closed off by police as drivers were asked to avoid the scene and find an alternate route of travel.
The train was released at around 7:40 p.m. after the investigation had concluded. There is no further information available at this time.
