Scio, OR (April 18, 2022) – One person is dead following a DUI Crash in Scio on Saturday, April 16th. The accident was reported around 8:45 p.m. in the 36300 block of Jefferson-Scio Drive.
Deputies with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. According to a report, a 2010 Subaru Forester driven by a Linn County man was traveling eastbound on Jefferson-Scio when the vehicle crossed the centerline into the westbound lanes. While in the westbound lanes, the Subaru collided head-on with a 1996 Toyota Tercel driven by a 61-year-old Scio man. The 61-year-old man suffered critical injuries and died at the accident scene. The Subaru driver was taken to Salem Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Following an investigation, officials determined that the Subaru driver was impaired by alcohol at the time of the collision. He was later charged with criminal negligent homicide, first-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence and reckless driving. The man was taken to the Linn County Jail where he was booked on the charges.
